A Wonderful Evening at Kathikas Market
LindySunday 6 September 2026 at Kathikas — golden light, live music, a flamingo bouncy castle, and hours of on-the-spot Morse code bracelets. A thank-you note to everyone who stopped by.
Sunday, 6 September 2026 — what a day. Kathikas Market welcomed us with open arms, warm smiles, and the kind of golden late-afternoon light that makes the whole village feel like it's holding its breath. From 3pm until well past sunset, the little square hummed with life — stall after stall of hand-made things, the smell of grilled souvla drifting through the crowd, live music floating between the plane trees, and (a personal highlight) an enormous pink flamingo bouncy castle keeping the smallest visitors joyfully occupied.
I set up the Whispering Wristwear table early and honestly didn't sit down for six hours straight. So many of you stopped by — not just to browse, but to *tell me a story*. The word you'd want on your wrist. The person you'd want to remember. The Morse code for a private in-joke between you and your partner. Every conversation added a little more meaning to the pile of beads and cord in front of me, and I'm still coming down from it.
The best part of a market day is the on-the-spot builds. Someone comes over, tells me a name or a phrase, and forty minutes later they walk away wearing it — the letters translated into dots and dashes, hidden in plain sight, just for them. I did a lot of those today, and the smiles as each one was fastened on made every hour worth it.
Kathikas itself is a special place to trade. The village leans in — locals wandering through, holiday-makers stumbling across it by happy accident, kids darting between the food stalls with ice cream running down their wrists. There's something very Cypriot about the way an ordinary Sunday evening can turn into something that feels like a small festival.
Every stallholder brings their own corner of Cyprus to the square — ceramics from Lemba, olive-wood boards from the mountains, honey from the valley farms, tiny hand-poured candles that smell like fig leaves. There's an unhurried generosity to it. People stop, talk, taste, admire. Nobody's in a rush. It's the antidote to shopping-mall shopping — and it's exactly the kind of place Whispering Wristwear belongs.
As the sun dipped behind the hills the whole square shifted into a slower, softer gear — fairy lights coming on above the plane trees, kids winding down from their bouncy-castle sugar highs, and the last few late browsers taking their time between stalls. Some of my favourite conversations of the day happened in that last quiet hour.
To everyone who visited the stall, ordered a bracelet, shared a story, or just stopped to say hello — **thank you**. Days like this are the whole reason I do this. Every bracelet made today is being carefully finished and posted this week, and I'll be back at the next Paphos market with fresh designs, more beads, and (hopefully) another glorious Cyprus sunset.
See you at the next one. 💛
